No.3612 Locomotive Restoration
No.3612 Locomotive Restoration
Locomotive 3612 is a diesel-electric RS-11 locomotive built in 1956 by Montreal Locomotive Works under license from ALCO. Originally delivered to the Duluth, Winnipeg & Pacific Railway, it was later acquired by the York–Durham Heritage Railway (YDHR) in Ontario. The locomotive served for many years hauling weekend tourist trains between Uxbridge and Goodwood, becoming a familiar sight along the heritage route. Following the suspension of YDHR’s operations in early 2024, Locomotive 3612 was retired from active service but remains preserved as a significant piece of Canadian rail history—one of the few surviving examples of its kind.
No.3612 Locomotive Restoration Update
3612 was tested last week, the new governor was installed and the partial rewire completed. Currently the engine and new break valves got tested and installed. We are waiting on a set of resistors to bring the newly wired engine control panel online in our next session. The locomotive is getting tested for active duty.
